Preamble:
The new moon can be thought of as a window in time when the Higher-Self initiates specific lessons or personal growth intentions for the coming month, and we can use the lunar cycle as a way of decoding evolutionary forces at a more granular level than the solar cycle or the transits of the slower moving planets.
For the spiritually minded person, the new moon is a time to receive the seed impulses for one’s personal evolution, and specifically those impulses toward bringing something new into conscious awareness. Each moon cycle fits into a larger cycle, which begins at the Aires new moon, and if you seriously want to track the unfolding pattern of higher-self guidance, it is a really good idea to record a log or journal of key messages and impressions received in the few hours before and after the new moon, roughly 4-5 hours on either side. During this window of time, make space to be more meditative and pay attention to your thoughts, inspirations, psychic messages and so on, as these will tend to correspond to the archetype the new moon is birthing in at the time, and correlate to the growth themes we are meant to work with during the month.
At some point in time (after a few months) you can look through your log and begin to see a key pattern unfolding, which can stimulate further insight in terms of life purpose.
To begin with...
As the new moon in Aquarius approaches, we are once again coming to the completion of another new moon yearly cycle, and this means we will likely be drawn to start finishing up developmental processes that began in March 2023 with the Aries New Moon. Whatever new evolutionary impulses that emerged back then, and subsequent growth during the year, may now be brought to a new objective perspective of understanding. Through Aquarius there is a call to detach emotionally, become more objective, and gain the higher ground in terms of understanding where we are in the journey of our lives. Higher-Self impulses this month may have us feeling more socially inclined, and drawn to connect with others of like-mind, and more than likely there will be a more altruistic and idealistic sense of higher-input during meditation and contemplation practices. We might be asking ourselves how we can help humanity more, and we may be impulsed to pay more attention to our own individuation process - moved to stay more true to ourselves, be more transparently who we are, and asserting our unique sense of individuality if necessary. This is a time in the cycle when it’s easier to be detached and become more aware of those personal patterns we want to change or overcome; there will be less energy in the subjective, which will help us keep things less personal.
The chart drawn for the Aquarius New Moon is packed with archetypal energy, but its not too chaotic, lets take a deeper look at the themes on offer this lunation wave:

A clarion call for correct living
With the New Moon in Aquarius, this month will focus on heightened objective new awareness, and due to the Saturn/Gonggong conjunction, and Typhon opposing Sedna and Mors-Somnus in Taurus, while also in trine to Neptune, global and personal disruptions will act as ongoing stimulus for both personal and collective change.
Typhon in Scorpio representing intense, uncontrolled use of power, in direct opposition to Sedna in Taurus, reflects very well the profound human violations taking place in situations like Gaza that are stirring many from their hypnotic slumber. Who exactly benefits from war?
Continued disruptions and breakdowns in social order, and within once trusted institutions, serve in part, to de-couple us all from our illusions. This disillusioning process is opening the way up for higher frequencies of energy via Quaoar and Pholus to stimulate awakening to higher truths, but via the Yod with Varuna at the apex, there is also emphasis-energy driving many to become more self-realised and sovereign. In the wake of so much chaos, destruction and uncertainty, how many of us are finding stability through a greater sense of life-purpose?
Meanwhile, with Chiron conjunct the North Node in Aries, there is an evolutionary push toward healing violence, destruction and war, and with Venus in Capricorn squaring the nodes, we can expect the issue of a closed or blocked heart to be brought to the surface. How many are so blocked they are unable to forgive? How many of us are entrapped in dubious, rigid and obsolete value systems? How many have lost integrity simply because they’ve shut down their heart centres?
This month there may be a breakthrough insight in these areas.
Collective Shadow-work
Typhon is stirring up deep uncontrolled impulses within the collective field toward control, power and coercion, the effects of which are causing some to experience trauma and even death (Sedna in Taurus). For those observing from elsewhere in the world, this stirring up of the collective human “mud” is stimulating an awakening from the hypnotic trance slumber, causing more and more to question their reality, perhaps for the first time. This opposition energy is generating a crisis energy with Praamzius at the fulcrum.
On the one hand, this indicates that at the spiritual level, all those currently victimised by the warmongers in the world, have prior soul contracts to experience violence, trauma and death. These contracts are complex, and although violence and war should compel us to feel love and compassion for the suffering of others, understanding the lawful nature of the way things unfold, can allow us to elevate out of fear, polarisation and negative judgement.
At the same time, through Praamzius we can recognise that the low frequency realities playing out through violence and war, are part of the natural unfolding nature of Ascension. The darker suppressed or hidden aspects of humanity must be exposed, and in so doing those who would avoid or deny the shadow side are now tasked with integration. If we don’t like what we see in the world, we must realise that only a collective shift of consciousness has the power to truly change it.
Praamzius also forms the apex of a Yod featuring Neptune sextile Mars. This month, there is pressure to realise that everything happening in our personal lives and at the global level, is governed by the law of karma; for every action or inaction there is a consequence. We are all being asked to deepen our awareness of this fundamental law; everything happening now is a result of prior actions or inactions, and with Mars in Capricorn, the onus is on learning to take greater personal responsibility where it is needed most.
This isn’t to say that everyone will suddenly have a profound “aha” moment in regard to the law of karma and personal responsibility, for some this may indeed occur, but for many I think there will be a poignancy connected to the way things are unfolding, which may contribute to the awakening process and a gradual shift toward a correct relationship with natural forces.
A similar theme is playing out with Varuna in Leo at the apex of another Yod with Quaoar and Pholus sextile Saturn and Gonggong. The destabilisation of global and personal structures caused by the new high frequency energies driving the Ascension process, stimulates us to make inner adjustments as we move more and more into alignment with the Higher-Self.
Personal work this month
With Icarus conjunct the New Moon in Aquarius, and the New Moon in opposition to Praamzius, this month could see a movement toward internal awakening processes that have us immersed in intuitive recapitulation cycles, in ways that allow for the liberation of old stories and patterns. The last New Moon in Capricorn, may have been a more inward and self-reflective time, driven by either a sense of limitation or depression.
Through Aquarius we have the opportunity to bring more light to any deep internal questions and challenges, and rather than just trying to push for answers, Icarus urges us to go deeper, slower and indirectly; there are no simple answers and cultivating patience with our personal process of healing and awakening is a beneficial strategy. Whatever quick fixes we might be tempted to concoct, they are more than likely to prove inadequate in the longer term.
The theme of patience his highlighted again by Chiron conjunct the North Node in Aires, while also inconjunct Orcus in Virgo. No matter how strongly we may desire to heal and resolve old wounds, we must also yield to forces greater than our own, and learn to cultivate more humility on the journey. Orcus in Virgo speaks to the notion of awakening as a meandering way; one deeply connected with methodology, ritual, process and self-analysis.
Praamzius in the opposition especially highlights the challenge of allowing things to unfold at the right time; we are all bound by the law of “right timing” and this concept may become more salient this month.
With Uranus in a tight square with the New Moon, we can also expect new insights to suddenly emerge in our awareness, and these insights may connect with a sense of crisis over personal meaning. And with Jupiter in a last quarter square with Mercury, grounded intuitive awareness may challenge pre-existing ideas about life and how we are making sense of things, causing us to liberate from old patterns of thinking into more expanded ways of seeing things.
Pluto in Aquarius
Pluto is now at 0˚ Aquarius for the 2nd time this last year. We’ve already experienced a 4 month period in 2023 when Pluto first entered Aquarius (since 1778!). Pluto will spend a final 2 months in Capricorn between Sep and Nov this year, before finally entering Aquarius full time until 2040. We are collectively transitioning between the 2 signs, and this means the underlying evolutionary energy affecting humanity is about to change. I cover these possible changes in more detail in an earlier post Pluto in Aquarius - A new era. I expect the movement of Pluto into Aquarius to coincide with a general world movement toward humanitarian values, which means the heavy restrictive energy of the last 16 years is going to dissipate from now onwards. This should be good for the majority of people on the planet, but it doesn’t mean that the war on consciousness has abated; it is more that we are reaching a tipping point where the forces of light are beginning to win. 2024 will still be a year of challenge and intensity; we probably won’t be seeing major breakthroughs in the way society functions or our corrupted and imploding national and global systems. It is more likely that we will experience more intense awakening in more people around the world, and a subsequent migration toward more equality, freedom and equity.
For example, it is notable just how many “free doctors” are disseminating new information on health care, and in particular on information aimed at helping individuals become health sovereign, and enabled to take power back from Big Pharma, by taking charge of their own health issues, through dietary and lifestyle changes instead of an over reliance on synthetic drugs . I think this influence is just beginning to build in momentum as Pluto enters Aquarius. When individuals politely decline the expensive and inadequate assistance of institutionalised doctors, we begin to see Aquarius at work, and when large numbers of individuals move away from the controlled narrative/dogma, the system as it is now will be under significant evolutionary pressure to change.
Waking Up
Typhon in Scorpio plays an active role at this time. He’s in opposition to Sedna and Mors-Somnus; he’s in a square to Praamzius (a Lord of Karma); he’s also in square to the New Moon, and in trine to Neptune and T-Wako (another of the new archetypes with the rather long name Teharonhiawako).
Typhon in Scorpio represents powerful and chaotic energy operating behind the scenes, or emerging in intense ways out of the collective shadow. He’s pushing the toxic low frequency aspects of humanity up to the surface to be seen; he’s stirring up the dirt that the world wants to avoid looking at. Typhon eventuates in events that test our courage, endurance and integrity, and lately he has been featuring a lot in new moon forecasts due to strong aspects with other planets.
His opposition to Sedna exposes how predatory forces create so much trauma and suffering in the world, and his opposition to Mors-Somnus challenges us to wake up to the dark side of reality.
In my observations dealing with the general public, the consensus view has been to avoid or minimise the notion of evil. Too many of us have been like children, imagining that all our systems are run by those who have all of humanity at heart, while deeply sensing this is not true. In secular reality, evil has been displaced into the realms of fiction, playing out through movies and fantasy, but never really taken seriously; evil is the boogieman that we are taught is just an archaic superstition. Jung highlighted his concern that humanity is lazy and resistant to facing its own shadow, and that when we avoid the shadow side of the human experience, we enable potent collective shadow forces to swoop in and possess individuals and sometimes entire populations, through which terrible things happen.
Praamzius in Leo at the apex of a T-Square with Typhon, indicates that positive movement can take place when we reclaim personal sovereignty, become more active in our pursuit of self-realisation, and recognise our part in the way karma is unfolding, and how alignment with the Higher-Power through the heart can make such a positive difference in the world.
Typhon in trine with T-Wako conjunct Neptune, speaks on the one hand to the way we have been avoiding the shadow side and trying to deny its existence. How many of us on a spiritual path of awakening have been bypassing the negatives of life? What is the consequence of this spiritual bypassing, both personally and collectively? The wisdom of T-Wako is to be able to accept the shadow side as part of the Game of Life construct we have chosen at the soul level to participate in. We live in a dualistic reality, and the deeper spiritual lesson becoming ever more active, is to reconcile with the nature of negativity itself; to be able to understand that without contrast there is little or no evolutionary potential, and that by denying the Shadow we enable it to manifest in uncontrolled and destructive ways. By making peace with the Shadow, and learning to respect it rather than fear it, tremendous healing and transcendence can occur.
The New Moon in Aquarius activates a Grand Fixed Square, challenging all of us to become more Shadow savvy. Awareness is a powerful feature of evolution; it is gold currency. This month, part of the task is to let the shadow, now rising into full view in the world at large, teach us about wholeness.
Finally...
This new moon releases energy that invites us to level up in terms of new awareness. This new awareness can emerge relative to global events, the nature of the Shadow, the healing of war and violence and its affect on all of us via past-life memory and pattern, and the law of consequence (karma) and how fundamental it is, relative to what we personally and collectively manifest.
The Ascension process affecting the entire planet and its denizens, must inevitably dredge up and expose the darkness we have been collectively bypassing for so long. Our personal commitment to processing whatever is ours to process, is pivotal in terms of what manifests in the world. The choice is ours; action or inaction has a consequence; fear and love will take us to very different places. Each one of us has a unique place on the journey, and choosing love will mean something different. For some, choosing love means first bringing love to the inner wounded child, for others it means being in service in some way, and for yet others, love might draw us to prayer and meditation.
Love unifies; love resolves; love heals.
